Description

Edwin Barrington Lue-shing’s painting, “My Asian Affairs Series – 10,” is a captivating exploration of his Asian heritage within his diverse background of seven heritages. His deep affection for Asian culture and particularly for Geishas shines through in this piece, as it is part of his larger series dedicated to delving into his Asian roots.

In this artwork, Lue-shing skillfully captures the essence and beauty of the Geisha, using vibrant colors to bring her to life on the canvas. The attention to detail in portraying the lady is evident, showcasing his admiration for the elegance and grace associated with Geishas.

Lue-shing’s connection to Asian culture is rooted in his nostalgia for the influence of Asian cinema in his youth. Growing up, like many young black men of his time, he was enamored with Bruce Lee films and martial arts movies. The memories of late nights spent at the cinema, watching and sometimes hilariously re-enacting badly dubbed Asian martial arts films with friends, have clearly left a lasting impact on his artistic expression.

Through “My Asian Affairs Series – 10,” Lue-shing not only pays tribute to his multifaceted heritage but also invites viewers to appreciate the cultural richness and depth of Asian traditions. His ability to blend personal history with artistic creativity results in a piece that resonates with authenticity and beauty.
